Also, I wish there was a usable, even half assed, macro mode. I know I can set it to take "Blind" photos with a double tap of the power button, but it's not something that can be relied on. I wish I could easily take accurate pictures one handed. I don't even notice the camera bump, it's just. My biggest problem with the Duo 2 is the camera, and not for the reason that everyone hates it. I still will sometimes "double tap" the back screen when going to single screen mode, and I have to open and then close it again. Rotation Lock turning on randomly, and I have to swipe down and turn it off to go into landscape mode. There are little annoyances like the keyboard placement(Slightly off screen) when in laptop mode, but just closing and reopening the keyboard fixes it. I do have my "grrrr" moments, but they have gotten fewer.
I'm using one as my only device too and I enjoy it.

Hopefully Android 12L will fix most of these little bugs and annoyances. The phone is quirky and that's what I love about it, if you want a traditional phone, this isn't it.īattery life isn't great, unless you stick to single screen mode but, you learn to live with it. The glance/edge strip is next to useless, it's at a weird angle. It saves having to open the phone all the time. My advice would be to own a smartwatch or a Garmin watch that can display notifications. It doesn't bother me and it doesn't happen consistently.
It does still have little niggles, and not everyone has them and some have more extreme ones but, there are times that random apps will just launch and span both screens, Outlook being one of them. The further-out nature of the statement seems to rule out the October security patch as bringing the big OS update. Releasing a solid date yesterday would have been a good consolation for existing Duo owners. Microsoft now tells the Verge that it “remain committed to providing updates to Surface Duo, and we’re working to bring Android 11 to existing customers before the end of this year.” The lack of a firm date feels telling. Android 11 was first rumored to be arriving “mid-year” 2021 before moving to sometime in the “ summer.” With fall officially beginning yesterday, the latest deadline has passed. Last year, it said the foldable would get three years of OS and security updates. Over the past year, Microsoft’s monthly updates have been primarily bug fixes and security patches. Following the unveil of the Surface Duo 2 yesterday, Microsoft is now committing to bringing the year-old operating system to its original Android Foldable by the end of 2021. The Surface Duo launched with Android 10 two days after the Android 11 rollout commenced last year.
